Which liars are we supposed to believe?

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 6th, 2006

Former deputy PM, John Anderson, who is in some hot water over selling his AWB shares between the time of government briefings on the Volcker report about to be released, and the release of the report, after which the share price has tanked, denies ever having been briefed by AWB officials on the likely adverse findings before the information was made public.

The big question is: who are we supposed to believe on this? The liars from AWB (whose lack of familiarity with the truth has been painfully evident during the Cole inquiry) or the Government (politicians who we know are liars)?

Best and worst movies

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 6th, 2006

Congratulations to the winners of the various Oscars today.

Going through that list, the only one I’ve seen that won one of the major awards was “Walk the Line” - for which Reese Witherspoon won best actress. She was very good in her role as June Carter Cash. I don’t know what her competition for this award was like - haven’t seen any of the other movies.

Now for the far more significant awards, the Razzies, awarded for the worst in movies. Worst movie went to “Dirty Love”, written by and starring Jenny McCarthy. She also got worst actress for it, and worst screenplay.

Spray-on glamour: a man works on display statues of the Oscar statuette outside Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Love this quote about this movie:

“Even by the standards of its bottom-feeding genre, “Dirty Love” clings to the gutter like a rat in garbage”

- Stephen Hunter, New York Times

Rob Schneider won worst actor for “Deuce Bigolo: European Gigolo” (has he won this award before, considering the crap he stars in?). Hayden Christensen, for playing Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars, Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith” backed up last year’s worst supporting actor award. He will, hopefully, never be seen on a cinema screen again, such is the shithouse quality of his acting. Paris Hilton won worst supporting actress for her “acting” in “House of Wax” - what about “One Night in Paris”?

Lastly, Tom Cruise won most tiresome celebrity for his antics over Katie Holmes. Sick of them? So’s Katie, so we’re told.

New toy

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 5th, 2006
Got myself a TV tuner card for my computer this afternoon.

Wasn’t intending to, but my son put the idea in my head. I’ve just bought him a new PC and was out buying a wireless card for it, and saw a TV card for less than I expected them to be, so I thought, why the hell not. Now I can watch TV and surf the net all at once.

Fireworks by the lake

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 4th, 2006

We went down to Regatta Point, next to Lake Burley Griffin, last night along with half of Canberra to watch the Skyfire fireworks display. It was pretty impressive. The National Library and High Court buildings look good lit up at night.

Got there just in time to hear the last few songs by Lee Harding, the guy who came 3rd in Australian Idol this year. Wow, what a thrill! My daughter’s verdict - yuk! Mine - not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but nothing special - and whats with the makeup, Lee?

Take the hint

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 2nd, 2006
A couple from Melton in Victoria had a terrible run of bad luck on and since their wedding recently.

Unfortunate couple / Ian Currie

First, the bride’s mother got lost on the way to the wedding - and no-one noticed till the ceremony was over. Then someone forgot to bring the cake to the reception. To cap it all off, now someone has stolen from their wedding photographer the undeveloped rolls of film with all their wedding photos.

I reckon with that sort of start to their marriage, they should take the hint, and elect not to breed. Just think of all the things that could go wrong there.

(This is besides all the reasons why people from Melton, and who choose to have their wedding at the Calder Park Thunderdome race track, and whose highlight was to have been a photo of the bride kissing her husband as a racing car did burnouts in the background, should not have children in any event …..bogan-icious!)

I’d also question the intelligence of the photographer who had $8,000 of uninsured camera equipment stolen from her home. Strikes me as a really good business model, having your tools of trade not protected.

What a surprise - the husband did it

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on March 1st, 2006
Allegedly, of course!

A 27 year old man has been charged with the murder of Sydney woman, Jody Galante back in January.

Sky News on the TV has named her husband as that man. Surprising isn’t it? The husband did it (just like in about 95% of these cases).
