Shelley Kovco lets rip
In the hearing into her husband, Jake’s shooting death in Baghdad earlier this year, Shelley Kovco gave it to:
- Brendan Nelson, for shooting his mouth and speculating how Jake died without actually having any facts to base it on
- diplomat Alistair Adams for fucking up the identification of Jake Kovco’s body in Kuwait
- the media for its invasion of her privacy
- Defence and the government for the range of fuckups that occurred over the repatriation of his body, and then losing the interim report into those fuckups, and then for the conduct of the inquiry which has resulted in things she was assured would remain private being released publicly, and for hanging onto some of his possessions
- the inquiry, because she doesn’t believe it will get to the bottom of how Jake was killed.
Here’s what she said. Spot on, too! The whole handling of his death has been a complete shambles, marked by incompetence and lack of responsibility and accountability. No doubt the inquiry will end up finding he shot himself in circumstances undetermined, and that no-one was responsible.
Why is it that when I think Defence, the thoughts “pissup in a brewery” and “root in a brothel” come straight to mind?

Private Kovco is ultimately responsible for not engaging in appropriate firearms safety procedure!
Either that or someone in the room shot him!
I wouldn’t know. However I do know the Army personnel stuffed up the scene which ruined the police investigation. The police, by the way, found someone else’s DNA on the weapon.
The weapon must not have been going through a cleaning process if DNA was found on it!
They were stuffing around! Younf soldiers always do this sort of thing! The result this time was a woman and a child left without a husband and father
I am an ex soldier and I know what dickheads they can be!

Just reading the series of blogs and articles re Jake Kovco. I cant help but be sickened by the many government officials that fail to take responsibility from the minister down to the embassy to the soldier.
Not my job … opps I am wrong … no I didn’t check why. I am glad that Shelley Kovco let rip. Well done.
As for the gov embassy official in Kuwait really the comment … not my job if he was a new recruit perhaps this may be understandable, but as someone with 20+ years of experience, someone who says he has undertaken more gruesome tasks where was his common sense approach. Matching a name tag on the body with the name on his paperwork or a photo with the body surely wasn’t too much to ask. Pure incompetence paid and supported for by the australian government.
And as for the comments on the state of third world morgue in kuwait the one with weeds growing out the front, i cannot see how this would hamper an official looking at a clearly written tag on the hand of someone or cross checking the body against a photo besides i am sure the embassy official as part of his salarly get some sort of hardship allowance to recognise the location he resides in. What is this take the allowance but expect five star luxury surroundings he should hang his head in shame.
