Finally!
The Australian women’s basketball team, the Opals, are world champions, after beating Russia 91-74 in the world championship final in Brazil this morning.
Congratulations! The Opals have been there or thereabouts the top for many years. I remember them coming 4th in Olympics and World Championships, then cracking it for bronze, then silver (with the USA always having their measure) but now they are number 1.
The stars of the final were Penny Taylor (MVP of the championships), Kristi Harrower and Lauren Jackson.

It’s a shame the game wasn’t shown live, but then why would they?
It’s only the womans team.
If it were the guys I’m sure they’d have a freakin tickertape parade on their return.
