Well I got 50% right

Got the Eagles ok in the AFL, but the Storm got rolled by the Broncos in the NRL grand final last night.

The victorious Brisbane Broncos

Congratulations to the Broncos, who were the better team last night. Melbourne didn’t play at their best, which had seen them dominate the home and away season, and didn’t do themselves many favours last night. However, I feel the Broncos’ win is tarnished somewhat because they gained a matchwinning advantage from some very dodgy decisions by the match officials - ie gifted 4 points through 2 penalty goals that just shouldn’t have been awarded, and then Melbourne had a try disallowed denying them 4 and probably 6 points. Thats a 10 point turnaround in a game decided by 7.

Oh well, too bad so sad, for the Storm. No-one will remember they were reffed out of the game when they read the record books and it says 2006 Premiers - Brisbane Broncos. Still it detracted from the game as a spectacle - which wasn’t a patch on the excellent AFL grand final on Saturday. (And there seems to be some acknowledgement of this in rugby league circles, with calls coming for a return to daytime grand finals rather than the current Sunday night timing).
