This should take about 2 seconds to decide

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on December 7th, 2006

Gary and Leslie Murphy, 2 of the killers convicted of the 1986 murder of Anita Cobby, have applied to have their “never to be released” sentences redetermined, meaning they would be given a release date.

I would think this should take no time to rule on, the answer being a year starting with 21xx, and conditional on them leaving jail in a box.

I can remember when that happened and I still can’t believe what they done to that poor girl. They should never be let outl

Death would be too much of an escape for those animals.

I am almost tempted to say that many of your crime posts are motherhood statements and so obvious. But to the courts, often they are not. It puzzles me when cases are so black and white, there may still be mitigating circumstances. Harm another person, go to jail. Seriously harm them, go to jail for the rest of your life. How hard can it be?

Andrew - I don’t disagree. I’d have thought the courts should apply what amounts to reasonable community standards when it comes to sentencing. It ought to be very black and white, and defences such as being drug affected, crimes of passion, provocation etc should receive little sympathy. Responsible people exercise control in difficult situations …if you elect to use drugs or alcohol and lose control, you also should expect to pay whatever the consequences of your choice are.
