Christmas Bogan Style

Carols by Candlelight in Glenmore Park in far western Sydney last night was livened up by a mob of brawling youths. Police said the riot squad, along with officers from three local stations, were called to break up the brawls when they erupted during the carols at about 9.30pm (AEDT). It must have been fairly significant, apparently requiring a response by 22 patrol cars.

Police didn’t arrest anyone, but moved a number of youths on. They stayed until the end of the carols to make sure there was no more trouble.

This is the bit that I found interesting. Organisers said the violence did not upset the event, with many in the audience unaware there was any trouble. What does that mean exactly? That the police response was out of proportion to the trouble, or that residents of Glenmore Park are so accustomed to bogan yob behaviour that they don’t even notice it?

Seems that the young folk of Glenmore Park forgot about the spirit of Christmas, peace and goodwill, and all that stuff.
