Airheads and bimbos

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on December 3rd, 2006

I wonder what the likes of Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are trying to achieve with some of their recent antics. I suppose trailer trash, airheaded bimboness substitutes for talent when it comes to gaining and maintaining notoriety.

What drew my attention to this, was this very appealing (not!) photo of Brittany Spears accompanying an unusually quite reasonable Miranda Devine piece in today’s Sun-Herald.

Not that innocent ... Britney Spears reaches new lows.

Mmmmm, fake plastic tits bursting out of pseudo-B&D outfit. Very appealing!

For even more of Brittany, see here (definitely not safe for work, nor recommended for children, or indeed anyone with good taste). There are similar views of Lindsay Lohan elsewhere on the same site, bloody lovely. Ok, can someone tell me why these “ladies” feel the need to get around sans undies? The whole point of it being what?

Dream Team - yeah, right!

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on December 3rd, 2006
What a wank this whole “dream team” label for the Kevin Rudd-Julia Gillard challenge to Kim Beazley’s leadership of the federal ALP is. They are not a dream team in any way, shape or form, merely a “not that great but probably a bit better than Kim” team.

Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd on the hustings near Brisbane yesterday.

Thinking of original ways to report things is not a strong suit of the Australian media. “Dream Team” - how many times has that been trotted out since its first use (I suspect this was the USA basketball team in the Olympics when they first fielded a bunch of NBA starts). At least no-one so far seems to have tried to label the leadership challenge as “something or other”-gate, which must have been used about 5 million times since Watergate.

And while I’m on this rant, why is every footy player, TV actor, musician always a “star” when mentioned in the media? Aren’t there any just ordinary, bog standard, average run of the mill footballers, actors and musicians?

One can of cock please

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on December 1st, 2006
Not so sure about this idea. The whole thought of sticking your dick into a can and having it laminated leaves me a bit cold. Love the guy’s description of the process though:

“We call it the ‘360 degree procedure’ - once round and from top to bottom. It’s a bit like a car wash.”

Also, the fact that there exists an Institute for Condom Consultancy intrigues me. I mean, how much consulting work is there in this field? Its not like there’s any great complexity in using them.

Gloves off

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on December 1st, 2006
The boys and girls have been getting restless over the last day or so. Three specific instances come to mind.

1. Milne vs Mayne

Last night’s Walkley Awards for journalism were livened up by News Limited columnist Glenn Milne having a very public and very drunken go at Crikey founder Stephen Mayne. While Mayne was presenting an award, Milne walked onstage and started yelling at Mayne before shoving him off the stage, then continuing with his tirade, before being escorted from the room.

Milne

Mayne got the last word, though, which I thought very funny:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I have an announcement to make on behalf of (News Ltd owner) Rupert Murdoch.”

“That is the former Sunday Telegraph political correspondent Glenn Milne, sponsored by Fosters.”

2. Rudd vs Beazley

Kevin Rudd is facing off with Kim Beazley next Monday for the leadership of the Federal ALP, and the job of Opposition Leader. Rudd said:

“The judgment that I have formed is that this is the most important election for Labor in a generation.”

Australia had reached “a fork in the road” on climate change and Australia’s involvement in Iraq,”

“That’s why Labor must win this next election. Because if we don’t win, my fear is the damage done to this country after 10 years of this Government becomes too great - too great to repair.

“To meet this challenge I believe that what the country is calling out for is a new style of leadership. I believe the country’s calling for a fresh vision, for new ideas, for a new agenda for Australia, and we’re putting ourselves forward as a leadership team to do that.”

Beazley’s argument for being retained as leader:

“I’ve done the hard yards in politics and I’ve done the hard yards of fashioning Labor Party policy,”

amounts to “I’ve failed twice before, I may be totally unconvincing, but I’ve served my time and deserve another chance”

Kevin Rudd doesn’t strike me as having any great resonance with the voting public. He seems to be intelligent and articulate which is a good start, but I think he’ll struggle to connect with voters. Still, he’s a big improvement on Kim Beazley.

Labor's future? ... Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard.

3. Fiji Army vs Democracy

Nothing surer than a military coup happening in Fiji in the next few days. Its strange isn’t it, the way this coup has been signalled in advance, ultimatums delivered, deadlines extended, and so on. It was all on for midday today, but has been pushed out to Monday now.

What is it with all these Pacific (and close by) neighbours of Australia? Solomon Islands - complete shithole, Papua New Guinea - ditto, East Timor - heading that way, Tonga - recent civil unrest, Fiji …
