Puritanism is alive and thriving in NSW Liberal Party
Brenton Pavier was the Liberal candidate for the seat of Wyong, until he was disendorsed for the crime of having a sick sense of humour. He sent a text message to some friends, which read something along the lines of:
“The video you have ordered about how to have sex with men with small penises is ready for collection and the DVD titled Anal Sex with Goats is overdue.”
which purported to be from a video store.
Silly joke? Sure, sacking offence? No way. Opposition Leader Peter Debnam, told the party to disendorse Pavier after hearing of the text message. How did he find out? Someone (one of Pavier’s “friends” to whom he had forwarded the joke) dobbed him into Liberal Party HQ in Sydney, who advised Debnam who took the decision to get rid of Pavier, saying that although the text was intended to be humorous, he believed it was inappropriate behaviour for a Liberal candidate. Which of course raises the question of what is appropriate behaviour? Competence obviously doesn’t rank highly among the criteria, judging from the quality of their parliamentary team.
Of course, by sacking Pavier as candidate, all the Liberals have done is give the story a new life, with Pavier now likely to stand as an independent candidate. Ignore it and its yesterdays news by tomorrow.
I reckon the real problem for the party in NSW, dominated as it is by the ultra-conservative religious right, is that some goat fucking Freemasons were pissed off that Pavier’s mates had their favourite goat fucking video out all the time.

Dumb text, but not a sacking offence. What a stupid over-reaction.
