The train must have been late again

When I read about a skeleton being found at a Melbourne train station, I thought, gee, his train must have been really late. Given the problems with Melbourne trains lately, its entirely plausible that someone could die waiting for the next train. However, it was nothing like that, turns out that the bones belonged to a homeless person who appeared to have been living (obviously before dying and becoming a skeleton) under the bridge near the station.

I’m intrigued by calls for public transport to be returned from private ownership (Connex in the case of trains) to public ownership. Whatever problems there are now under the private operator, things weren’t exactly great when they were run by the government. Run by the unions for the benefit of members, not commuters, pretty much sums things up from the days of government operation.

  2. The members of the Union however did not mind a bit overtime so there was always a few trains at night run when now there is none.
The trams are worse. They turn them around half through a route so as not to be late on the return. Too bad if you are waiting up the line or need to get up the line.
