Dickheads never learn

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on April 4th, 2007

Another example of a bunch of dickheads too stupid to have learned the lesson:

NEVER VIDEO ANYTHING YOU DON’T WANT YOUR WIFE/GIRLFRIEND/MUM/THE POLICE TO SEE

5 Sydney teenagers were today arrested over a gang rape , which they had filmed using a mobile phone camera. These brainiacs got a 17 year old girl drunk at a friends house, after which she was taken to a bedroom and put on a bed, where her denim skirt was hitched up and her underpants removed. One of the boys in court today allegedly then had vaginal sex with her and the other began filming it on his mobile phone. While the boy recorded another boy climbed onto the victim’s face and performed a sex act, say police. The victim could be seen on the video trying to push the boys away and get off the bed. While this was happening, other boys were encouraging the rapists. One was heard saying “Put it in” and another “f— her”. Police say one of the boys then appeared to break wind on the victim, saying “get that into ya” before giving another boy a high five.

The police say the girl was taken home and left outside her front door, and when she woke up, had no recall of the events of the previous night. Safe so far for the boys … leaving aside the rape itself which I’ll come to later. But bright sparks they are, they had to show the girl the video of their triumph, and then pass it around at her school, where it fell into the hands of teachers, who reported it to police. The girl apparently reported the attack to police after being threatened by another student at school. So what has brought the lads undone is bragging about their proud deeds to their mates and showing off the video of their handiwork. Sucked in guys! Get ready to bend over, Bubba’s coming!

As for the act of rape, I’ve just got to wonder what sort of guy gets off on having sex:

  • with a girl who is unconscious
  • and/or not a willing participant
  • as a shared experience with their mates.

Oh yeah, ones who see women as a hole to stick their dicks into. The comments by one of the accused’s grandfather may go some way to explain the types of attitudes these people were raised with. He questioned whether it was a case of rape, saying:

“If someone says that: ‘Oh yeah they raped me’ but four days later I get a phone call ‘You want to come?’, ‘Yeah, I’ll jump in the car with you’. It’s bulls**t,” he told the Seven Network.

“Was she drunk? Prove it.”

He went on to say videoing the alleged incident was “stupid” but young people use their phones to record “everything”. Maybe so, but most people’s values do not include raping unconscious women …if they didn’t think that was ok, they wouldn’t have had it to record.

Finally, it comes as no surprise that the five alleged attackers were arrested at homes in Green Valley, Kemps Creek and Miller in Sydney’s west …. bogan central!

Beached whales

Why do these stories of humungously fat people having to be rescued by having their house demolished always amuse me? Why are they invariably in America? More importantly, how the hell does someone get to be 318kg - thats 700 pounds/50 stone, for those non-metricated people? You’d have to eat 24/7 for a lot of years to get that big!

Powerpoint = useless

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on April 4th, 2007

According to some research reported on today, presenting information both visually and verbally at the same time, is actually a hindrance to learning. The bottom line is that we can’t chew gum and walk at the same time, or more precisely, find it difficult to process information if it is coming at you in the written and spoken form at the same time.

The University of NSW research shows the human brain processes and retains more information if it is digested in either its verbal or written form, but not both at the same time. The findings show there are limits on the brain’s capacity to process and retain information in short-term memory.

According to Professor John Sweller:

“The use of the PowerPoint presentation has been a disaster,” Professor Sweller said. “It should be ditched.”

“It is effective to speak to a diagram, because it presents information in a different form. But it is not effective to speak the same words that are written, because it is putting too much load on the mind and decreases your ability to understand what is being presented.”

Don’t you hate it when you have to sit through a preso where someone just reads their slides …fucking hell I think, just give me the slides and I’ll read them myself.

Great moments in criminality

Posted by Ian in Uncategorized on April 2nd, 2007

An attempted armed robbery near Melbourne overnight is almost too funny to be true. But the paper says it happened so it must be true, of course.

A man and woman confronted a staff member at the Cuckoo restaurant in Olinda, as he left the restaurant after closing time. They demanded he handed over a black plastic bag, which they believed held the night’s takings. However, it actually contained leftover bread rolls he was taking home to feed to his chooks. The robbers then demanded the staff members car keys, but as he handed them over, the male robber’s shotgun went off, wounding the woman accomplice in the stomach.

The staff member and restaurant manager then ran inside and locked the doors, and called the police. They could hear the woman screaming in pain as they called police. However before the police got there, the man carried the woman to the road and they escaped with the help of an accomplice. The woman later took herself to hospital - and was being treated for serious injuries. A man was later arrested and being questioned by police.

Criminal masterminds, not!
