Hospital

Hospitals are such exciting places to hang out at, on a par with airports, I think.

I spent a lot of today at the hospital waiting around for, or with my son, who had an operation today. Had to report in at 6.45 this morning, and I’m not a morning person so that had me tired right from the outset.

Its bloody distressing to see your child sick, and when my son came back from the surgery, obviously groggy, pale and all that, it wasn’t something I’d like to see him go through again.

Up for another exciting day at the hospital tomorrow. He should get out sometime in the afternoon, depending on how he pulls up in the morning, but there is some chance it might not be till Friday.

The only good bit from my son’s perspective is the 2 weeks he gets off school. He’s not so impressed by 4 weeks till he can ride his bike, and 6 weeks till he can play soccer again.

Update (25/5/07): Well, Friday has been and gone and the boy is still in hospital. The doctor wants to see him up and about more, and eating better before discharging him. He’s still finding the pain after the surgery hard to handle. Thursday afternoon, he was really good for a couple of hours, and keen to go home, but since then, he’s been in pain and pretty down.

Update (26/5/07): Home at last!

  3. Children are so much better at coping and much more resiliant than we adults. He’ll be fine.

  4. Yes, this is the worse we can go through in life, to see our children in pain and not being sure of the outcome…

I have been through a few things in life, like everyone, but I know that I couldn’t take anything that would happen to my children. I hope everything is better now and your son is feeling like this was just a bad dream… My thoughts are with your family.
