I’ve never seen this on a cop show

Not once in any of the cop shows I’ve ever watched on TV, has a friend or relative of a dead person ever tried what Gordon Wood did when he went to the morgue following the death of his girlfriend, Caroline Byrne.  He said to the morgue attendant:

“Do you mind if I look at her tits”.

That is in the morgue attendant’s evidence in a statement to police.  Wood is charged with murdering Byrne by throwing her off a cliff at The Gap (a famous Sydney suicide spot) in 1995, and his committal hearing is currently underway.  Actually this has been a pretty dodgy case all along, with Gordon Wood claiming that Caroline Byrne committed suicide, his connections with stockbroker Rene Rivkin and his living overseas for several years after Byrne’s death, until his arrest and charging with her murder last year.  Its always occurred to me that the police weren’t trying too hard for many years, given Wood’s supposed connections with some influential people … strangely, since their deaths, his extradition from the UK and now the committal hearing have moved fairly quickly, it seems.

I wonder if breast inspection, whether by sight, or having a good feel, is a reliable form of identification that could be adopted by police forces everywhere.
