Shinade

Saw a girl on the news just now, and that was what the name captioned on screen was.

I wonder if this was just a caption person at the TV station who can’t spell, or bogan parents who either couldn’t spell Sinead, or were trying to be clever and give their daughter a “different” name.

Given her appearance, and the nature of the story (she was a witness), I strongly suspect that mum and dad are the guilty parties.

  1. ROFL!
Maybe they wanted to make it easier for her to spell. But when I read it, all I can think of are those energy drinks! (Powerade, Gatorade) lol

  2. i read the silliest of names in a book called Freakonomics, where the discussion surrounded whether a name influences success and prosperity. A woman had called the author(In the usa) and complained about her son being teased. His name ‘shuhteed’ spelt shithead!…
    only in America.

  3. Ah yes. A colleague has a daughter called ‘Georgia’ but spelled Georga because according to the mother that’s how it should be spelled. I thought briefly about explaining to her the capacity of vowels to determine whether the consonant G is ‘hard’ or ‘soft’, but she’s a victim of English schooling and life’s too short.

  4. On the other hand my partner swears he heard a mother shout “Goo-ey” to her son in a playground… the child’s name was spelled “Guy”.

  5. That spelling in Gaelic actually translates into ‘The Graciousness of God’….that’s why I chose it because I figured I could use some of God’s grace. Just popping in to say hello and let you know why it’s spelled that way.:-)

  6. Hi Shinade – well I learn something new everyday. Its a spelling I’ve never seen before.
