I just figured I’m going to be freaking cold next week

I’m off to Tokyo on Saturday.  Work, not holidays.

I know that the seasons in the northern hemisphere are opposite to here in Australia, so I did realise it would be winter in Japan, but just what that entailed didn’t really hit home for me until the last day or so.

First, I looked up the weather forecast on the web.

Then, on the phone today to colleagues in Tokyo, the fact that it was snowing there got mentioned.

So, better pack the thermals, polar fleece and big warm coat.   Thats a change from the t-shirt and shorts I’ve been getting around in for the last few months (plus I have to suit up for the week in the office in Tokyo … here I mainly work at home).

    1. well, i’m sorry about the cold and snow. i’m not a big fan of winter either. but hey, look on the bright side: at least you are in tokyo. even if it’s a business trip, it still beats staying at home. =)

    2. I live in WA state, about the same latitude as Japan…Brrrr! It’s cold here right now too. 41 degrees F, windy and two of the major passes here in the state (Stevens and Snoqualmie) are close because of avalanche danger. 160 mph winds on Stevens pass today too. Nope, no global warming…Yeah, right!

    3. Um, no sympathy from me here buddy. The heat and humidity are damn near killing me right now.

And I am cranky as all um…… heck.

Give me snow angels over this stinking heat anyday. Even in the yellow snow.

    4. That’s insane. I’m soo glad I don’t live over on that side anymore lol The snow about did me in. Even the cold here sometimes is down right hostile to me anyways. Bring on SUMMER!!

    5. I used to love my short trips to Japan. All the better because all my expenses including steak dinners at the Hyatt and the associated bill were taken care of by AMEX and then by the company. Sushi is always a good option because you don’t have to discuss things with waiters who don’t understand you. Business meetings were a bit tedious because of all the stuff that happened in Japanese.

    6. I am in Tokyo now and the weather today is actually pretty good, but it has been so unpredictable lately…Snow one day sunny the next…The wind chill has been bad.

You probably won`t need thermals but definitely a couple of layers!

Hope you enjoy your time here!

    7. Actually it hasn’t been too cold at all. Not beach weather, but crisp rather than chilly. Out of work hours I’ve been getting round with just a polar fleece jumper over my normal clothes. When I got here on Sunday, there was a reasonable amount of snow lying around …noticed it especially at Ueno Park.

    8. I hope you are having an absolutely wonderful time. My son is in Vietnam right now and did not expect it to be so cold – not as cold as you have been experiencing though. Just as well as he took only one jumper.

    9. Hi Ian,

I’m living near Beijing – it’s warming up now, but we were under 0C (down to -12C) for about a month. We could walk across the river! But not much snow here – too dry… :(

Heading back to Brisbane in a couple of months, so that’ll be a bit of a change!

Enjoy Japan! (Never been there but want to).

    10. You are lucky to not have visited Minnesota at that time. It was -28 C a couple of mornings and my kids have to walk to school! (except on those days)
