Breaking the internet
I really liked this photo when I first saw it a few days ago. Lindsay Lohan did a photo shoot for New York magazine which was a re-creation of Marilyn Monroe’s last nude photo shoot. It was even done by the same photographer who took the photos of Monroe – Bert Stern.
The images were so popular on the internet that the magazine’s website crashed after receiving around 20 million daily page views in the days after they were published. The average number of daily page views in January was 1.2 million.
While the cover photo above is really good, and some of the others (I was only looking at the magazine’s site for the articles, honest!) are too, it doesn’t alter the fact that Lindsay Lohan is a fairly mediocre actress who has gained more fame and notoriety for her out of control personal life than she’s ever likely to get for acting.
Still, I’m happy to post the photo here – (a) because I like it, (b) because I know it will be a traffic magnet.

You knew she had to do something outrageous to get back into the good graces of the limelight and this does it. Now she thinks that everybody will forget her past indiscretions.
Why not let the past stay there. All of us only have the present to do something in and I applaud Lindsay for such an outstanding photo shoot. Perhaps her life will turn around and we’ll all feel good about it.
To be honest, I don’t see a resemblance between Lindsay and Marilyn – if you ask me, Lindsay resembles a young Ann-Margret (esp. when she keeps the natural hair color).

I thought the majority of the photos were awful. A New York Post journo put it beautifully when he said, “Monroe looks available in her Stern photos; Ms. Lohan looks available for sale.”
I thought she also looked really old.
But a handful of the shots really stood out, as long as you weren’t comparing them to Marilyn’s. They were beautiful photographs in their own right, I just don’t understand what “point” they were trying to make by having Lohan recreate that shoot…
It’s not surprising that their servers crashed. With millions of bloggers not understanding that they’re not supposed to link directly to the photo (instead of downloading it and hosting it on their own site), not many servers can withstand that sort of traffic. It’s called horking, also known as stealing bandwidth. And it’s in very, very bad taste.

Normally Lindsay doesn’t appeal to me in photos, but this photo is sexy, classic, and gorgeous.
I saw Lindsay with her friends once, out front of a cafe where I used to write in a suburb just outside of Hollywood. She is TINY. She had a pleasant vibe about her.

I love the concept, but I don’t know if Lindsey pulled it off. I think they could have found someone else to do a better Marilyn.

I honestly can’t stand her, but with all the photoshopping done, she looks okay on the cover. There are much better actresses to choose from and yet none of them will be as gorgeous as Marilyn.
At least he didn’t pick Paris Hilton!

I loved her in Mean Girls and Parent Trap, after that, I don’t really know…
No way she even TOUCHES the class, sexiness, or anything else Marilyn. Lohan exudes skankiness to me. I think they could have picked another actress, like Heigl or Watts.
I actually like it.
I have been very perplexed as to why she was chosen/asked/sold to do this… There are many other actresses that could have better portrayed Marilyn. WAY better.

Maybe it’s because I’m a straight woman, but these don’t strike me as attractive. In one she kinda looks like a chipmunk. I have to say tho, that I can look at the photos of Marily Munro and see that she’s sexy and beautiful. I think if you’re going to re-do Marilyn, you’d better out-do her and in this case, I really think she falls flat. (I don’t mean in the boob area, obviously)
