Iron Man
My son talked me into going to see “Iron Man” tonight. I’d seen the ads for it when I was in Taiwan and Hong Kong a week and a bit ago and thought it looked interesting (of course, I didn’t understand the ads in Chinese). So “cheapskate Tuesday” at the local cinema was enough to convince me it would be worth spending $9.50 on.
And it was well worthwhile, much better than I’d expected. I haven’t really been much of a fan of comic book adaptation movies (like Spiderman, Batman, the Hulk) but this one was pretty good ….I’d never heard of the Iron Man comics before, so it was all new to me.
Sure it was far fetched, but it did have an interesting premise, and the story was well told. Robert Downey Jr was excellent as the main character, Tony Stark, and Jeff Bridges made a good bad guy (I didn’t even realise it was him until the credits at the end). Gwyneth Paltrow did a decent job also.
Next thing we’re going to is in a couple of weeks …. The Chaser’s live show. Kids talked me into that as well. That should be good … Cellobella saw it last month in Perth and enjoyed it.
Iron Man was a practically flawless hero flick; its makers drop some pretty obvious sequel hints too… i’m thinking the next one should be equally great
I’m glad it’s worthwhile seeing – my kids want to drag me to it. Me, I’m just happy for some Robert Downey Jnr goodness.
thanks for the review Ian…
I’m going to go with my daughter this month if it’s on at our local…we have cheap Mondays and Tuesdays…$6.00….hard to beat ..eh
I did enjoy it! It’s a little bit patchy just like the show but overall very funny. A bit like a uni review show.
I wanted to see this movie because of all the promos but I wasn’t sure if I’ll like it, so since you liked it, that’s a good sign that I’ll probably enjoy it too.
Let us know what you think of The Chaser – we saw it when they debuted in Canberra and thought it was only okay….!
