Geriatric sex fiend – powered by Viagra
Svetozar Varmedja seems to have overdone things with the Viagra, to the extent that its cost him $232,000 in a court case. Varmedja, 80, was found to have subjected his 53-year-old wife to more than 18 months of physical and sexual abuse.
Mrs Varmedja met her Australian husband in Serbia in 1995 and the couple married in 2000. Mrs Varmedja said her husband was a good man who treated her well, until April 2001, when he started taking Viagra. Then he went crazy – according to his wife:
“After taking those tablets, he told me it was very important for him to have sex three or four times a day,”
“Those tablets changed him and he started to treat me like a slave,”
If she didn’t comply with his wishes, he threatened her with violence, and to kill her. The court found there were three acts of sexual assault a week, as well as other sex acts. Mr Varmedja beat her with a curtain rod, a stick and his shotgun. The abuse included more than 200 sexual assaults. The threats included, according to Mrs Varmedja:
“He put his gun in my mouth and said: `One day, I will kill you’
“This is your punishment for not completely satisfying me and this is what I will always do.”
The second one was after cutting off her hair.
Mr Varmedja denied his former wife’s allegations. But the court found Mrs Varmedja was assaulted and had suffered a significant and chronic post-traumatic shock disorder, as well as depression. Mr Varmedja appealed the damages awarded on the grounds they were excessive, but lost his appeal last week.
What a pig! I wonder why this was only a civil suit and there weren’t criminal charges against him (maybe there are, it doesn’t indicate in the report) – there certainly seems to have been plenty of criminality involved. As for blaming the drug, I find that a bit hard to swallow – I’d say it was most likely the guy was an animal all along and the Viagra simply enabled his behaviour rather than caused it.

I read this in the paper on the weekend and I can’t believe that Viagra is being implicated as the cause, like you said, its more likely that he was an animal all along and did his best to hide it for as long as he could.
