No reason to post other than I love this picture

 rock island bend

Its Rock Island Bend on the Franklin River in Tasmania.  It was used with a story about an Indian soldier who drowned rafting the river on the weekend.  It is a photo used effectively in the campaign against the damming of the Franklin River back in the 1980’s. I thought it was a wonderful picture then and it hasn’t lost anything over time.  The photographer was Peter Dombrovskis.

Fortunately the plans to dam the river never went ahead.  Why anyone in their right mind would even contemplate destroying something like this beats me!

  1. I remember seeing a documentary back then that was about some people canoeing down the Franklin River. It was shown to raise awareness of the dam issue and show people what would be lost. The scenary was SO beautiful. I was completely entranced.
