Its Rock Island Bend on the Franklin River in Tasmania. It was used with a story about an Indian soldier who drowned rafting the river on the weekend. It is a photo used effectively in the campaign against the damming of the Franklin River back in the 1980’s. I thought it was a wonderful picture then and it hasn’t lost anything over time. The photographer was Peter Dombrovskis.
Fortunately the plans to dam the river never went ahead. Why anyone in their right mind would even contemplate destroying something like this beats me!

Tis a pic one could dive into or just drink in all day.
I remember seeing a documentary back then that was about some people canoeing down the Franklin River. It was shown to raise awareness of the dam issue and show people what would be lost. The scenary was SO beautiful. I was completely entranced.

Terrific one.
Have you wondered about the water? It looks so unnaturally.
Great picture. I have never been to Tasmania, but it is sad to see great natural wonders being destroyed for the development of humanity.
It is a great photograph! Thanks for sharing.. Peter Dombrovskis made some great photos, that’s for sure.
Wow, what a sight…I love to see these kind of photos. I have a folder with a bunch of them.
What an absolutely breathtaking picture! I have travelled so much outside of this great country of ours… you have me all inspired to take my next trip to good old Tassie. Gorgeous.
