In the light of the bushfires in Victoria comes an early contender for wanker of the year.
The Catch the Fire Ministries has tried to blame the bushfires disaster on laws decriminalising abortion in Victoria.
The evangelical church’s leader, Pastor Danny Nalliah, claimed he had a dream about raging fires on October 21 last year and that he woke with "a flash from the Spirit of God: that His conditional protection has been removed from the nation of Australia, in particular Victoria, for approving the slaughter of innocent children in the womb". Mr Nalliah referred to 2 Chronicles 7:14 to back his assertion.
Mr Nalliah said:
"The Bible is very clear, If you walk out of God’s protection and turn your back on Him, you are an open target for the devil to destroy."
and also:
"In my dream I saw fire everywhere with flames burning very high and uncontrollably. With this I woke up from my dream with the interpretation as the following words came to me in a flash from the Spirit of God: that His conditional protection has been removed from the nation of Australia, in particular Victoria, for approving the slaughter of innocent children in the womb."
As well as the fires, Mr Nalliah has previously said drought and the world financial crisis could be partly blamed on human sin.
As I said, wanker!

i got so cranky reading that article. what a douchebag!
I love how the fundamentalists blame every natural disaster on whatever goes against their personal beliefs. My ex church blamed hurricanes on society’s acceptance of homosexuality. Whatever.
Absolute wanker and did you know he was number 2 on the senate ticket for “Family First” at the last Federal election?
That makes me shake with anger.
How dare he.
How dare he.
I would like to see this dick visit our community and try and defend his words.
I am speechless.
Couldn’t have put it better and makes me glad that I am an atheist. When religion produces idiots like this there is no wonder that churches are losing more and more people every week from their congregations.
Scary thing is that people like this are getting more sway with Governments the world over.
Concerning Family First, I wonder how they fit into the whole “separtation of powers” thing?
Looking back over history, there are two things (and more recently, three if you include oil) that have started all wars:
1) Politics
2) Religion
If there was ever an argument for keeping politics out of religion and vice-versa; history is our best teacher.
No wonder there are such who take Scriptures all too literally, unaware of the consequences.
Of course, here in the “morally superior” United States, we have Rev. Fred Phelps and his so-called “Westboro Baptist Church” out of Topeka, Kansas, notorious for protesting @ the funerals of real or suspected homosexuals and war casualties “for educational purposes,” or so the official patsy goes.
I believe “pastor” Danny Nalliah is the classical example of infantilism. What relationship the Gospel material, or the teachings of the ancient Christian churches, have with “pastor” Danny Nalliah’s delusions, I should be very interested to learn. I have noted that other so-called ‘pastors’ in the over zealous Evangelical tradition ( imported from the United States ) are, similar to Danny Nalliah, in that they leave their grey matter out of the equation. They are opposed to the Darwinian theory, homosexuals et cetera; whilst remaining silent on wars waged by powerful countries upon small nations without power. Danny Nalliah, in his irrational and judgemental statement regarding the hundreds of people tragically effected – the many lives and homes lost – has proven himself merciless, and ought not to be calling himself a Christian; he is in my opinion an utter fool. Many of my atheist friends demonstrate more charity and compassion than “pastor” Danny Nalliah.
