Mothers Day.  Lets make Mum breakfast in bed.  A nice plate of bacon and eggs.  Great idea.

However, thats where things all went wrong for a Melbourne family today.  The mum heard noise coming from the kitchen where her two daughters were attempting to cook breakfast but dismissed it as bickering between the pair.  However, they had actually set the kitchen on fire accidently.  It appears they set the frying pan on fire which then set the cupboards on fire.  Then Dad tried to put the fire out, receiving 2nd degree burns to his hands.

Then someone called the Fire Brigade, who quickly came and put the fire out, but not before it had done an estimated $15,000 damage.

The 56-year-old father was taken to Austin hospital with 2nd degree burns to his hands, and the girls were treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Bit of a dampener on mum’s big day!
