There’s a court case going on here at the moment involving a 43 year old woman school teacher accused of having sex with a 15 year old boy student. This is particularly close to home here, as it all happened at my son’s school, albeit the boy involved was a few years ahead of him at the school.
The former St Francis Xavier College teacher is on trial in the ACT Supreme Court accused of having sex with the boy five times during the course of the eight-month relationship, including in the teacher’s bedroom and on her desk at the school. She was a science teacher at Saint Francis Xavier and coordinator of the boy’s Year 9 group when the alleged offences were committed, and has pleaded not guilty to five counts of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 and one count of maintaining a relationship with a person under the age of 16. The evidence reported in the case has been quite lurid, with the alleged victim telling the court that a flirtation by mobile phone soon turned into an affair involving oral sex, anal sex and vibrators.
Yesterday prosecutors paraded 15 dildos and vibrators through the courtroom as part of their case. Now, as amusing as this may have been, I’m not really sure what it contributed to the prosecution case. Perhaps they are trying to portray her as the kind of sex-crazed nymphomaniac who is the type to be pursuing 15 year old boys?
My son and I were talking about the case yesterday. I asked if he knew this teacher. He said he’d only had her once ….which after a little chuckle he clarified as meaning as teacher for one lesson.
Update (22/5/09) – seems the judge was unimpressed by the sex toys presented in evidence. He said he was completely puzzled as to why the prosecution tendered them as evidence.

I would just like to clarify, for all those people who judge books by their cover… the media in society today are terrible. They will do anything to get a story and will fabricate the truth.
I am a former Saint Francis Xavier student. I am in the same year as the student who made these allegations.
For all the people that have read the newspapers and the news articles, I hope to god you have not judged Tania Tominac on what you have read or the pictures you have seen.
Tania is slender, fit and naturally beautiful for her age… this DOES NOT make her a sexual predator. People see her blonde hair and great physique and will already judge her, and quite frankly, that’s not fair.
The newspaper articles have taken the worst of the allegations/statments made by this boy (who, might I add, has a history of lying, excessive drug use and abusive behaviour) and have made Tania sound like a sex-crazed predator.
For all who don’t know her, you should know; Tania Tominac is a beautiful and loving wife and mother of 3; her children are all supportive, honest, considerate and kind-hearted.
Tania was the type of motherly person that you could go to when you left your lunch at home and she would loan a few gold coins for the canteen. Tania was the type of teacher that would help anyone and everyone, and you could approach her with any issue. For many of us, she was the one we went to for advice and counselling because she was so motherly and happy to make time for you if you were in need. She was a close friend to our whole year goup, and we missed her greatly. It is not fair that the one teacher that actually cared for the students welfare and tried to make a difference in our lives, ends up in a horrible situation like this, where a student has taken that care, support and trust of a teacher and made it something sinister.
Tania treated her students like people, she treated us like young adults who can accomplish anything. Many of the other teachers instead just viewed students as I.D. Numbers, not bothering to get to know anyone, and not trully caring about anything other than what was prescribed in their job description.
For those of you that have been following this story, and have been reading all the one-sided media; please don’t judge someone you don’t know and do not be MISLEAD by the Media. This court case has the potential to destroy a innocent woman’s life, and in doing so, destroying the lives of her family.
so… are oral sex, anal sex and vibrators perceivesd to be “worse” than vaginal sex?
Fiona – it would seem that way? Obviously the reporters on the case think them to be more lurid details to report than just plain old vanilla.
I think we need to learn from the Duke case. Let’s see what justice has to say at the end of the case. Let’s not destroy someone’s life to sell more newspapers. If she is really guilty, she will get enough jail time
The media love these types of stories. They seem to pop up with surprising regularity. If you flip them around, they’re not so appealing anymore.
