Stewart Blackburn, 18, was having problems with his girlfriend. In fact she was threatening to break up with him. So he poured petrol over her and set her on fire, then held her bedroom door shut, cutting off any chance of escape.
Her final words to her father were: "I don’t want to die, Dad – I love you." The prosecutor told the court:
"It is difficult to envisage more cruel or sadistic treatment of another human being,"
Too true! Blackburn faces life imprisonment when he is sentenced next year for murdering 17 year old Jessica McCagh. I’m thinking a Joan d’Arc style punishment is more fitting – tie him to a stake and light the bonfire.
Utterly sick, lock him up and throw away the key.
That one line ‘I don’t want to die Dad – I love you’ made me cry.
Honest to god, cry.
I cannot think of a suitable punishment to fit a crime like that.
