I’m in my 40’s, living in beautiful sunny Canberra, Australia’s capital city. Married, with 2 kids. Somewhat quirky, some would say black, sense of humour. Probably too much of a cynic, a bit of a sarcastic bastard. This blog is for my musings, rantings and ravings about any old crap that attracts my attention.

I work in the Information Technology business, but I’m not a sales or techie type.

I like photography, bushwalking, caves, music, sport, reading, movies among other things.

I like lots of different types of music, mostly alternative/independent. I’ve never liked top 40 type stuff, and don’t get me onto the subject of (c)rap, hip-hop and all that stuff. I’ve always been keen on Australian music, among my favourites have been The Saints, Laughing Clowns, Hunters and Collectors, The Numbers, The Go-betweens, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sunnyboys, the Triffids, and others I’ve forgotten temporarily. Lately I’ve developed a bit of a thing for Canadian music, with current favourites including New Pornographers, Arcade Fire and Metric. Some other music I quite like includes REM, Joy Division, Blondie, Sex Pistols and The Jam.

My favourite movies would be The Shawshank Redemption, Lord of the Rings and Glory. I’m also quite partial to Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob movies.

Favourite books? Can’t think of specifics at the moment, but I do like crime thrillers, spy stuff and the like. I spent many years studying at university - I have 3 degrees - and since then I’ve gone more for the trashy novel than anything weighty and intellectual.

I like travelling. I’ve so far been to all states of Australia, plus New Zealand, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and the USA (the map below shows how much of the worldI’ve covered).

As for sport, I follow many sports as an interested spectator. Like like rugby league and rugby union, Australian football and cricket mostly. I have at various times played cricket, tennis, basketball and volleyball competitively. Not any more though - too old and fat!
